Pardon my Anglophlic ignorance in my NY-LON blog response to the distaste I expressed over American dominance and ignorance.
Since my recent trip over the pond, my eyes have been open to the honestly and clemency behind American people, life and living. They are fab over there! And the country is beautiful! I definitely see myself relocating over the pond to set up camp and work! (a major contradiction to what I was saying before…) But I think that was all down to the fear of “selling out” for fame, fortune and success. But my want to work in America is simply down to the fact that I want to work in the aesthetical environment that they are based upon over there.
Don’t get me wrong…I still simply adore British cinema, and aim and want to restore our film industry and bring it to new recognised heights. Because I think British films are simply amazing! The gritty, unpolished realism that they present is aesthetically genius! But, the simple fact is that some ideas of mine for film and TV simply cannot be done on British screen. Now, I am not saying that I would just use America for its aesthetics…but I am saying that I appreciate its glamour, beautiful, sexiness and power from time to time. Shows like ‘The Tudors’ and ‘The Borgias’ just could not have been created on the platform that they were, and had the ultimate success that they did/do if they were to be made within the bounds of typical British production.
My patriotism towards British cinema is still very much evident. However my ignorance’s have been challenged and I am rethinking things…
