Friday 29th April 2011…and I caught it.
I caught that patriotic bug that was going around. I convinced myself that I wouldn’t…I couldn’t. I think people were expecting me to come down with the fever from the very beginning (…being an anglophile and all…), yet I nothing, I was convinced that I was immune, and wanted to stay that way.
As much as I was excited to get a day off life, drink champagne and hang out with loved ones whilst watching TV, I was just not feeling the excitement. If anything, I felt sickened. The hype around the ‘Royal Wedding’ was just sickening to me. Every channel…Royal Wedding. Every news report…Royal Wedding. Every person…ROYAL WEDDING” ARRGHHH! It was driving me MAD!
Waking up at 8:00am to travel down to London Bridge to watch William and Kate exchange their vows was tough. Being shouted at to hurry up and get ready was even harder. Anyone would think that my mum was invited to the actual wedding and I was making her late.
But once I got to my sister’s flat, sat down, had a drink of champagne and watched that awkward moment when the ring nearly didn’t fit the finger…I caught it!
I had it for about 3 days afterwards, until…
Until that Monday morning my facebook news feed was flooded with status’ about Osama Bin laden.
Yes, the most wanted man in the world was supposed dead, with no evidence what so ever expect for President Obama’s word that he was thrown in the sea…
First initial thoughts:
It’s a coax. Its not true. America are just jealous of Britain patriotic weekend that they just HAD to overshadow us with something…ANYTHING!
…………….And they did!!!
Second initial thought:
KMT.
Thank you America.
Thank you for taking our one moment of fame and pride away from us.
I hope you are oh so proud.
