♡ The Virgin's Lover ♡
When I was 8 years old, I had a crush on John Smith from ‘Pocahontas’.   Strange, I know. But I did not think it that strange to have a crush on a cartoon character at that age.   And it never happened again….   …until the other day.   Although, this time it isn’t a cartoon character, but a character from a book.   I recently read this book called “The Virgin’s Lover” by Philippa Gregory, and I...

BBC's 'The Fades' pilot - my review
O.M.G! In my opinion…the pilot episode of ‘The Fades’ tonight was SO GOOD! I am definately tuning in next Wednesday to support these talented actors! Johnny Harris AND Natalie Dormer in the same show?! Jeez. BBC want to give me a heart attack from this overload of British acting talent! I must also mention that I think the writer Jack Thorne did an amazing job, and he should...

News: 'Les Miserables' film adaptation feat. Hugh...
So, I have just heard… Hugh Jackson revealed on the blue carpet of the “Real Steel” London premiere that he will be returning to the captial to star in a film adaptation of ‘Les Miserables’ (directed by Tom Hooper). He is to be staring alongside Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway & Geoffrey Rush…and I must admit that I am soooo excited!! Not that I have seen the theatre production of Les...

#20peopleidmarry and why....
So, as per usual, I decided to follow suit on twitter with the worldwide TT #20peopleidmarry, and thought to do a blog post about them and why I would marry ‘em…   So, let’s start…   Dwayne Johnson WHY? Because from his interviews, he seems like a really funny guy! And I have always said that I would want my husband to be able to make me laugh from morning to night. And, not to bow my own...

Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Rise of the Planet of the British actors, more like.   One word…   EPIC!   It was good to see David Oyelowo, a black British actor in the lead role of this film. Even though he may have been playing a villain…I think it was the British accent. I don’t know what it is but Hollywood seems to typecast us Brit thesps and our accents as the antagonist. Not that I am complaining…I always love playing...

Captain America review
One word…   DISAPPOINTING.   After the hype (and the fact that it’s a Marvel film, and therefore MEANT to be EPIC!) …the film t’was a massive flop!   It was like I was watching the gameplay to a really cheesy action adventure game!   The CGI was extremely fake, and did not look well done at all. With their big budget you would think they could afford better CGI technicians (?!)   The FX was...

I Know What You're Thinking © by Katrina...
I know what you’re thinking Standing here A young youth Dressed this way and talking like this I must be the stereotype A stereotype There on a hype And doing my own thing I know that’s what you’re thinking That I always have a hoody on my head And carry a knife in the front pocket Yeah…what? WHAT? If you mess with me you know…I will spark you differently You understand me blad? You man… Don’t...

Oppression of Invisibility © by Katrina...
My life is so lonely. Such a lonely existence that I lead. Am I invisible? Can you not see me? Is that it? No? Then why do you ignore me every time? Not just you…but you too. And you! And you! All of you! Why? I try. I really do try my hardest to be seen and heard. But you all want to speak over me, stand in front of me, and ignore me. You can’t even look me in the eye. You look to every other...

Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder © by Katrina...
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder…apparently. Depends on who that eye belongs to. It is true that real beauty comes from within, but let’s not be coy. I know, just as well as you do, that no one sees another on the street and does not judge them on what they look like on the outside. I learnt this the hard way. The day I decided to brave that vile world and step out onto the high street...

Growing Poem © by Katrina Smith-Jackson
I want to be free I want to break free I want to go Why won’t you let me grow? With these shackles on my feet I can’t stand I can’t walk I can’t fly away Why do you seek to control me this way? Am I a puppet? Or a pawn in your game? Am I not human? With a mind and mouth of my own Let me go! Let me grow! You tell me to fly… But I can’t! You need to let go… But you can’t! How can I fly if you...

"Cheryl who"?
Simon Cowell is just blinded by money signs. And they seem to be the sterling pounds signs and not dollar signs, because why has he put Cheryl Cole on the US X Factor judging panel?! No one knows who she is in the US, so they won’t care about some Geordie bird that got cheated on by her sleazy husband! Jeez. I would have at least thought Simon had the sense to put an American, or at least a...

Planet 51 review ('aint got a witty title remark...
I am taking a step away from the reviews about serious Hollywood blockbusters that either tickled my fancy, or got my blood pumping for all the wrong reasons. Recently, I watched the animated flick Planet 51 which I found rather…interesting, to say the least. The reason why I watched this film was because I was recovering from a slight hangover from the previous night out and wanted to watch some...

The Paint Soiled Dress © by Katrina Smith-Jackson
As I look into the mirror and turn away from my ageing complexion, I wonder whether these stains are real or not. Standing here in my bedroom, the contrast between the feel of my matured toes and the ancient carpet isn’t very detectable. Through the looking glass, I see my youth and beauty replaced with old age and ugliness. Those big brown dough eyes that once drew men and all their companions to...

Lord Have Mercy On She © by Katrina Smith-Jackson
I stood there in my lodgings, specially made out for me and full to the brim of majestic elements. Fur-like, lush velvet cushions, stitched by the genius Master Thornburgh, and to lay my head when fatigue hit. The finest wine throughout the country, placed in a jug made of pure solid gold, to be drunk at my pleasure. The expensive gown, embroidered with jewels that sparkled like the evening star,...

2010...in a nutshell!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Despite being the official first year of the new decade, as well as the first year of the second decade of the new millennium (phew!), 2010 has been seen by many as a flop! I too must agree with this, as whilst I thought a completely fresh start would offer much opportunity for me and others in terms of life and the world, there really was not much going on for me. I remember...

There has to be a Prestige...
This is a short and brief critique on “The Prestige”. I love this film so much, and at some point, I will return to it and expand on my thoughts on it. I love the idea of turning an epistolary novel into a film adaptation and reflecting the diary entries through the use of character narration. Also, by using the non linear retrospective narrative structure, the film is able to create the...

Inception? Or Deception, more like?
I may be in a small margin of people who disagree with the hype that the film was ‘AMAZING’, ‘EPIC’, ‘INDESCRIBABLE’…but that doesn’t mean that I don’t ‘get it’ or that I didn’t have the creative imagination to understand the complexity of the film’s themes and plot! If anything…it means that I have the imagination and creative ability to see past the, honestly, fantastic cinematography that was...

Pardon me...
Pardon my Anglophlic ignorance in my NY-LON blog response to the distaste I expressed over American dominance and ignorance.   Since my recent trip over the pond, my eyes have been open to the honestly and clemency behind American people, life and living. They are fab over there! And the country is beautiful! I definitely see myself relocating over the pond to set up camp and work! (a major...

"NY-LON" blog response
I never know how to start these deep blogs of mine. I always have the ideas stuck up in my head but never the starting point to get them down in an engaging way. Let me just start with the basic facts.   The other night, I was reading a fellow thesp of mine (Emma Dennis-Edwards)’s blog “NY-LON” and was motivated to write a sort of blog response to some pointers she raised and issues she addressed....

Is all MUSIC just GAS these days?
I am sick of music these days. It just seems to get crapper and crapper.  I’m listening to Choice FM at the moment, and some song called Good As Gold just came on and I hear the lyrics “Windows 98 ain’t shit next to Vista”.   OH, FFS!   …WTF?!   WTH?!  SNH.  KMT.   I mean, what kind of shite pointless lyric is this?! #KMT.   This proves my theory how some of these musical artists in the game are...

My Faith Movements
Personally, I think we are all heretics. What is the true faith? If you think about it… Faith has changed/evolved/moved/developed so much over these thousands of years. What is the true faith? No one knows. We are all heretics. If we were in the 16th century, we would have all been persecuted by now and sent to Smithfield. I don’t think it’s a problem though at all. Why...

Britain’s Got British Talent only?
Well, I have just finished watching the Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) final results, and I am simply content with the result. I have to say that I am sick of singers winning! Last time I checked, this was “Britain’s Got (a variety of) Talent”. Not, “Britain’s Got (only singing) Talent”. It seems that this show is turning into a spring version of the “X-Factor”! I was rooting for Razy (a.ka. Mr Matrix...

Get to know about UK talent! I [heart] British...
Anyone who knows me will know of my burning passion and love for UK talent, and how I have an aim and ambition to help bring UK talent and the UK film industry to total fruition, showcasing just how amazing some of the actresses on our little island truly are! I believe that there is so much undercover acting talent here, overshadowed by the [insert word here] institution which is known as...

Patriotic Fever...its deadly.
Friday 29th April 2011…and I caught it.   I caught that patriotic bug that was going around. I convinced myself that I wouldn’t…I couldn’t. I think people were expecting me to come down with the fever from the very beginning (…being an anglophile and all…), yet I nothing, I was convinced that I was immune, and wanted to stay that way.   As much as I was excited to get a day off life, drink...

Ex-Factor from our screens?!
Ok, so now that’s Simon, Cheryl AND Dannii who have dropped out of the next series of the UK X Factor. Hmm, so will we even have a panel of judges this year? Let’s review this for a second… Ok, Simon is excused…simply because he is Simon Cowell! Cheryl…being the nation’s annoying little sweetheart obviously wasn’t enough for her. Well, watch how her...

The Anglophile Goes Sunnyside Up!
I shall be going away on holiday to Florida this summer… And as much as I am excited to spend some time away from the hussle and bussle of life in the other concrete jungle known as London, to be perfectly honest, I am not looking forward to spending a number of weeks in America and countless amount of hours over the pond! Now, do not get me wrong…I do not hate Americans. But if I...

Words CAN define me
Here is the wikipedia definition of what an Anglophile is: “An Anglophile is a person who is fond of English culture. Its antonym is Anglophobe.” Here is my definition of what an Anglophile is: “Someone who is proud and relieved to be British.” But how can you be?, I hear you say… What proper gets me hot under the collar is how African Americans can go around saying ‘I’m so proud to be an...
